The Customs and International Trade Bar Association (CITBA) and the American Society of International Law International Economic Law Interest Group (ASIL IEcLIG) are pleased to announce a joint summer fellowship for first- or second-year law students who  are members of groups that historically have been underrepresented in the customs and international trade law practice in the United States and that have been adversely affected by racism.  The deadline for applications is Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 11:59pm ET.
The Customs and International Trade Bar Association (CITBA) and the American Society of International Law International Economic Law Interest Group (ASIL IEcLIG) are committed to diversity and inclusion in the international trade and economic law fields, to ending racism and its effects in our society and to increasing opportunities for attorneys from underrepresented groups in the field who have been adversely affected by racism. To further these goals and to assist promising students who otherwise might not be able to afford an international trade or economic law internship in the public or non-profit sector, CITBA and the ASIL IEcLIG are pleased to announce a joint summer fellowship for first- or second-year law students who  are members of groups that historically have been underrepresented in the customs and international trade law practice in the United States and that have been adversely affected by racism.
  • The fellowship is intended to help cover expenses during the student's summer work experience practicing international trade and economic law with a government agency, public interest organization, or international organization prior to graduation.
  • The fellowship does not provide placement; rather, the student is required to locate and apply for summer internship opportunities. Applicants are not required to have secured placement prior to the fellowship application deadline.
  • The fellowship includes mentorship opportunities from both co-sponsoring organizations and a $1,500 stipend.
  • At least two fellowships will be awarded for summer 2022.
  • Applicants must be first- or second-year JD students.
  • Given the constraints of Covid-19, work may be virtual or in-person.
  • The deadline for applications is Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 11:59pm ET.

The application is available for download here.
